Sun, Vines and Healing Waters

The sun rich area south of Vienna was used as a “Rebland” (vineland) already more than 2,000 years ago. Roman legionaries recognized the potential of the pannonnian climate. They improved the existing grapevines with grapevines from Italy. The also brought the knowledge of wine making to the region.

At approximately the same time numerous curative thermal baths originated along the sulfur springs in and around the city of Baden, from which the region derived its name later on.

Wine making extends from the southern border of Vienna alongside a ridge to the region south of Baden. The amazing quality of the grapevine is due to the hot summers and the continuous air movement. In fall, this results in fast drying grapes after a lot of rain and dew.

At wine festivals as well as at tastings and award ceremonies the people of this region proudly celebrate the high quality of their wine.
